Helen Maxwell Gallery is located on the first floor of a renovated 1960s building in Braddon near the centre of Canberra. It is a large open space with high ceilings, lit both naturally and artificially.

There are new exhibits each month showcasing contemporary art from Australia and the Pacific. Helen Maxwell Gallery has a stockroom of work by Aboriginal and non-indigenous artists and a wide representation of contemporary Australian artists.

Some of the artists represented by Helen Maxwell Gallery: Jean Baptiste Apuatimi, Vivienne Binns, Yvonne Boag, Tony Coleing, eX de Medici, Annie Franklin, Shayne Higson, Judy Horacek, Marie McMahon, Kate Lohse, Sue Lovegrove, Patsy Payne, Franki Sparke, Neil Roberts (1954–2002), Wilma Tabacco, Paul Uhlmann, Ruth Waller, Megan Walch, Judy Watson, Robin White (NZ).
